On June 8th 2012, a farmer and an architect buckled up in all their leather, swung their feet over their steeds and rode away into the horizon of this country. Deepak Thimmoji is a Bangalore based architect and also owns a farm in Shimoga where he spends at least one day a week. He and his friend Thankachan Andrews set off from Bangalore on their Royal Enfield 500cc motorcycles for a cross country ride. Instead of doing it the conventional way, the duo decided to ride for a cause. Christianizing their ride as ‘Dream Ride’, they decided to create awareness among the people against corruption, communalism, and pollution. As part of their ideology of sustainable environment message they used minimal amount of plastic and fuel. With an aim to interact with as many locals as possible, the two of them vowed to avoid the highways whenever possible. In 44 days Deepak and Thankachan covered 12,000kms, traversing through Karnataka, Kerala, Puducherry, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Odisha, West Bengal, Jharkhand, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Uttaranchal, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab, Rajasthan, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Goa, and Daman States. With the travel bug having bitten Deepak, scarring him for life, he made another trip, this time solo, to the North East. Meeting and interacting with people, getting into the pulse of the place and moving along its rhythm is what excites Deepak Thimmoji the most. Both these journeys have been documented on film – Dream ride 1 & 2.

“Working day and night to keep your tummy, mummy and clients happy can get to you sometimes. Mistake me not, I love my job. Although everything goes well, sometimes the routine can scale down your enthusiasm.” – Deepak Thimmoji
